Boys Division
Qualifying:

Competition for boys begins with regional, 18-hole qualifying tournaments.  Players may participate at only one regional location. Based on allotments, the top regional scorers are invited to play at the two-day, 36-hole state tournament.  The top four boys at the state tournament receive invitations to compete in the national tournament (all permitted expenses paid by IIANC).  Winners in each age division are recognized with awards at both levels of play.

Age Brackets:  Regional qualifying tournaments and the state tournament have two age divisions: 14-and-under and 15-18 as of July 30, 2010. Play is from the back tees for both age divisions. A tie for first place and runners-up in any age division will be decided by a sudden death play-off beginning on Hole #1 immediately upon completion of the final round.

Girls Division
Competition for girls begins with the two-day state tournament, and the top two 36-hole scorers are invited to the national tournament (all permitted expenses are paid by IIANC). (There are no regional qualifying tournaments for the girls state tournament.) Winners in each age division are recognized with awards at the state tournament. The overall tournament winner receives the Peggy Kirk Bell trophy.

Girls may choose to play in a boys division regional tournament in order to gain tournament experience and practice, however they are not considered part of the field of competition and do not receive trophies. If a girl participates in a regional tournament, she must still register and pay appropriate fees for the state tournament, at which she is guaranteed acceptance (space permitting).

Girls should call the Pine Needles Pro Shop and make a tee time for their practice round the week prior to the tournament, which is included in the state registration fee (tee times are first come-first reserved, space permitting).

Age Brackets: The girls state tournament has two age divisions: 14-and-under and 15-18 as of July 30, 2010. Play is from the forward tees for both age divisions at all levels. A tie for first place and runners-up in any age division will be decided by a sudden death play-off beginning on Hole #1 immediately upon completion of the final round.

USGA Rules of Golf and Etiquette shall apply except as amended by any local rules, which will be provided. Players should be familiar with all rules before play begins. Obscene or foul language and littering will not be tolerated.

Spectators
We appreciate spectator support of the tournaments. Recognizing that this is a competitive athletic event, we ask that where possible spectators stay at least 25 yards from the participants and be mindful of the high level of concentration needed by the players. No spectator carts are allowed unless proof of a valid handicap sticker is shown to the golf course pro shop. Players may not seek advice from anyone during a tournament round, including parents and other spectators (caddies prohibited). All ages of players must walk the course and pull carts are allowed.

State Long Drive Contest
A separate Long Drive Contest will be held for each division. The winner is recognized with a trophy. The contests will be held by open invitation after play is completed on Saturday during the State Tournament.

Entry Fees
Entry fees must be received with the application before it will be processed. Credit cards may be used by completing the “Payment” section of the application or by registering online. Fees are: $75 for the Regional Tournaments and $100 for the State Tournament. All late registrations incur a penalty.

Expenses
All expenses permitted under the regulations of the N.C. High School Athletic Association, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the U.S. Golf Association are paid for those who play in the national tournament. Such players are responsible for checking with their school officials, if their school is in session during the time of the tournament, to ensure compliance with the NCHSAA.

Confirmation
Once an application is processed, registrants will receive a mail or email confirmation of their acceptance into the tournament. An email notification will be sent to players with their expected tee times and pairings approximately one week in advance of their tournament. Also, tee times will be posted on the tournament website prior to the tournament.
