The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina, Inc. (IIANC) is pleased to sponsor the 41st annual Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Classic in 2009. This tournament draws many of the state’s top junior golfers each year, and we invite you to participate this summer! Formerly known as the IIAJC, the Big “I” Junior Classic (sponsored nationally by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America) is the largest golf tournament in the United States that results in a single champion. Each year, more than 4,000 young golfers compete in local and state tournaments around the country with the top 167 players advancing to the national finals. The list of players that have participated in the Big “I” Junior Classic over our 40 year history includes some of golf’s great players. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Charlie Howell, Billy Andrade, Cristie Kerr and Grace Park have all participated in the Trusted Choice Big “I”. In fact, Tiger Woods won the Big “I” Junior Classic twice during his amateur career - the second win was in 1992 at Pinehurst #7! This year in North Carolina, competition begins with one-day, 18-hole regional qualifying tournaments held in eight locations around the state in June (for boys only). The state tournament is a two-day, 36-hole weekend event in Southern Pines in July (for boys and girls). An annual Long Drive Contest is also held as part of the boys and girls state tournaments. The national tournament comprises 72 holes with activities stretching over five days, including the Patrick Cannon Memorial Long Drive Contest. This year the national tournament will be held at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma on July 25 - 30, 2009.
